Jewish genealogists have numerous software choices these days. We use a wide variety of programs on our computers or family history websites and other technologies.
The Jewish Genealogical Society of Palm Beach County (JGSPCI) in Florida is hosting a program focused on the popular software program Family Tree Maker, with Hal Kelley of the Palm Beach Genealogy Society (PBGS) on Wednesday, October 10, at the South County Civic Center in Delray Beach. Members, free; others, $5.
The day includes the Galicia SIG meeting at 11.30am, a Brick Wall Session and a business meeting, followed by "Tips and Tricks: Making the Most of Family Tree Maker."
Kelley will demonstrate how to create, print, share a family tree in various formats; how to use it for exploring, preserving and sharing history; how to build a tree; attach photos, documents, audio and video files; design and print charts to display and share; and preview the newest 2008 product.
A 20-year member of PBGS, Kelley has been researching for nearly 50 years, and will show examples of trees and books he created with FTM. A retired lawyer and consulting engineer, he has taught computer courses and specializes in using computer for genealogical research.
Snowbirds and year-round residents should mark their calendars now for upcoming programs: November 14, Helene Kenvin, "The Genealogical Detective: How to Think Like a Genealogist;" and December 16, the annual luncheon will feature Rafael Guber's "Jewish Genealogy Roadshow: Chotchkes and Ephemera."
