San Diego, CA: DNA and genealogy on May 6

The San Diego (California) Jewish Genealogy Society (SDJGS) will feature Dr. Stephen Baird of the UCSD Medical School, who will speak on "The Science of Reproduction - Implications for the Future of Genealogy."

The meeting is at 1 p.m. May 6, at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in La Jolla.

Baird's talk will include a discussion about sperm & egg donors, frozen embryos, stem cells and cloning as well as what the X and Y chromosomes reveal about family relationships and ways that movement by Jewish people throughout the diaspora can be tracked using these genetic-testing methods. DNA testing and its accuracy will also be explored.

Fee: SDJGS members, no charge; others, $3. For more information, click here.
