Some time ago, there was a fast and furious latke condiment war going on at the Jewish Records Indexing - Poland discussion group, moderated by Judy Baston in San Francisco.
It was a classic genealogists' food fight and my take on it was recently published in World Jewish Digest, a large-circulation monthly magazine (print/online).
The war raged among those who ate them plain, applesauce, sour cream, even cinnamon sugar and malt vinegar. Only one respondent admitting to eating his latkes with ketchup.
