Given the ad hominem attack that my previous post received it was obviously a good decision on my part to post anonymously. However, I am not the person who blogs as "Ancestry Insider."

The post by the other Anonymous was ad hominem because it consisted of replying to my assertion that the LDS Church has lived up to the terms of its 1995 agreement by declaring that I am therefore a hateful person who smears people. It would be much more productive to the discussion if this other Anonymous would have instead addressed the substance of what I asserted. If I am incorrect in my analysis of the 1995 agreement, I welcome being corrected but I do not welcome being attacked just because my analysis reached a different conclusion than that reached by Helen Radkey.

In other words, attack my argument, not me. Thanks!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32414509.post-35668915745722511062008-11-30T14:14:00.000-07:002008-11-30T14:14:00.000-07:00The above Anonymous is probably the hateful mormon...The above Anonymous is probably the hateful mormon who calls himself "Ancestry Insider". He has recently tried to smear Helen Radkey, because he objects to researchers publishing the truth about his church.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32414509.post-10911678788775315932008-11-26T23:21:00.000-07:002008-11-26T23:21:00.000-07:00"Anonymous," please read the detailed report at ht..."Anonymous," please read the detailed report at http://www.avotaynu.com/mormons/RadkeyReportDetail.pdf .Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07909175584899159266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32414509.post-71935520251106746622008-11-25T13:35:00.000-07:002008-11-25T13:35:00.000-07:00I have read the text of the 1995 agreement several...I have read the text of the 1995 agreement several times over the years. I fail to see exactly what part of it that the LDS Church has failed to fulfill.

Quoted below is the portion of the text from the 1995 agreement setting forth what the LDS Church agreed to do.

"As a consequence of these discussions and the First Presidency's directive, the Church has agreed to:

"Remove from the next issue of the International Genealogical Index the names of all known posthumous baptized Jewish Holocaust victims who are not direct ancestors of living members of the Church.

"Provide a list of all Jewish Holocaust victims whose names are to be removed from the International Genealogical Index to the American Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Commission, the N.Y. Holocaust Memorial Commission, the Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles and Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem, Israel, and confirm in writing when removal of such names has been completed.

"Reaffirm the policy and issue a directive to all officials and members of the Church to discontinue any future baptisms of deceased Jews, including all lists of Jewish Holocaust victims who are known Jews, except if they were direct ancestors of living members of the Church or the Church had the written approval of all living members of the deceased's immediate family.

"Confirm this policy in all relevant literature produced by the Church.

"Remove from the International Genealogical Index in the future the names of all deceased Jews who are so identified if they are known to be improperly included counter to Church policy.

"Release to the American Gathering The First Presidency's 1995 directive."

http://www.jewishgen.org/InfoFiles/ldsagree.html

The names were removed from the next edition of the International Genealogical Index.

The list of names removed was provided.

The directive was issued. The fact that some rogue members ignored that directive has no bearing on whether or not the directive was issued. The agreement never said that the LDS Church would do anything in particular to insure compliance with that directive, OTHER THAN to repeat this directive in all relevant literature published by the Church. The LDS Church has, to the best of my knowledge, done so.

Anytime removal of additional names is officially requested, they are removed. The 1995 agreement never required the LDS Church to be proactive in removing names before it was asked to do so, or to be proactive in keeping names from being added to the IGI in the first place.

And I assume that a copy of the guidance was provided to the Jewish community since I have seen no allegation otherwise, thus complying with the last term of the agreement.

I think you might have a lot more success negotiating with the LDS Church on terms for a more comprehensive and robust agreement if you were to quit asserting that the LDS Church has failed to fulfill its obligations under previous agreements.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32414509.post-10342527243402341232008-11-25T11:56:00.000-07:002008-11-25T11:56:00.000-07:00Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was unaware of the latest developments.

You are a brave woman and a hero as far as I'm concerned - there are many people who would not even post about certain topics for fear of being blackballed in the genealogy community which seems to be dominated by those of the Mormon faith.

Please don't let this topic fade away.Thomas MacEnteehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09925130637060406529noreply@blogger.com
